The studio, the method and the coaches

BASI Pilates Alicante is the only BASI Pilates studio in Alicante and the only one in the city equipped with BASI Systems. A space in San Juan Playa designed for precise work on the body, in small groups, with coaches trained in the method.

The method

Why BASI

BASI (Body Arts and Science International) is an international Pilates school founded by Rael Isacowitz in 1989. Its method brings together classical Pilates and the science of movement.

Its signature is the block system: exercises are arranged in a logical sequence that structures each class progressively. Every session works through all planes of movement and different muscle groups, and adapts to the individual.

For our coaches it is the most complete and coherent way to work the body: you understand what you’re doing, and why.

Equipment

Equipped with BASI Systems

We are the only studio in Alicante equipped with BASI Systems, the equipment designed specifically for the BASI method. Here’s what you notice in class:

  • Pulleys that fit youThe BASI Systems EPS pulley system lets the pulley height and width be adjusted to your body. And it’s silent: the class sounds like breathing, not metal.
  • Precise resistanceAn expanded gear system allows very fine adjustment of spring tension, which matters for rehabilitation and for progression.
  • The F2 SystemSprings attach at different angles and points on the Reformer, Cadillac, Barrel, Chair and Spine Corrector: far more variations of every exercise.
  • Built for the methodEvery piece is designed to serve the BASI curriculum. It isn’t generic equipment.

Lead coach

Inna

Inna is the lead coach and manager of BASI Pilates Alicante. She has completed the BASI Pilates Comprehensive program, along with Lolita Legacy certifications in Mat and Small Equipment, and is on the path to becoming a BASI mentor (expected May 2027).

What she values most in BASI is its logic. The block system structures every class progressively, it is grounded in the scientific study of the human body, and it integrates classical Pilates. To Inna, it is the most complete and coherent way to work the body today.

She has worked with basketball and tennis players, and with clients living with disc protrusions and herniations, who have felt their back pain ease gradually through careful, controlled work. For rehabilitation clients, she always asks for a doctor’s clearance before starting.

Her approach is balanced: strength, flexibility and stretching in every session. She keeps learning, with seminars on hip and shoulder-girdle anatomy, pelvic floor, footwork and small equipment, plus weekly training with BASI instructors.

Inna is from Odesa and teaches in Russian and English.

Coach

Rachael

Rachael discovered Pilates while training as a ballet dancer. After a career as a professional dancer, she turned to teaching Pilates full time. She now has almost 20 years of practice and 15 years of teaching dance and Pilates, in studios across London, Dublin and Alicante.

She has taught thousands of students: young children, clients in their 80s, dancers, athletes and circus artists, and people with a wide range of injuries and conditions.

What draws her to BASI is its precision, its flow and the block system. Her classes focus on alignment and correct form. In your first session you’ll talk through your goals and explore the fundamentals of BASI (quality of movement, control and how your body moves), with personal adjustments where needed. Her aim: that you leave more balanced, in body and mind.

Rachael is from Ireland and teaches in English.
